Fundraing Tips for Bowl For Kids Sake Event

  • Set a fundraising goal and create a written fundraising plan with weekly benchmarks.  This breaks your fundraising down into smaller steps.

  • Your first pledge should be a self pledge to show potential donors your commitment to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kennebec Valley (BBBSKV) and the fundraising you are doing to support their mission.

  • Brainstorm a list of possible contributors.  Be sure to include every business you spend your money at.  Not all businesses can donate cash.  If they can’t, ask for a product donation and turn that into cash by inviting family and friends over for coffee and dessert and having a silent auction.  This is a good exchange value for donors.

  • Here is a list of fun ways to raise money

    • Contact an organization in your hometown like the Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary, Elks, Eagle, Boy Scout or Cinergy Club to ask if they would help you put on a fundraising supper, dance or auction.  Fire Departments also do a lot of community work.

    • Ask friends, family and co-workers to save their returnables.

    • Do a 50/50 raffle for pledges

    • Do a bake sale. Wal-Mart will match you if an employee gets involved.

    • Send out a personal letter appeal to businesses, organizations and individuals stating why you are raising money for BBBSKV. Include a return envelope.

    • Post a donation appeal on your facebook and send it to all your friends.

    • Sell items you no longer need or use at a second-hand store or on Craig’s list.

    • Place a collection can out at several retail businesses like gyms, bars, restaurants or any high traffic business.  I have some cans labeled for the event.

    • Make a gift basket of donated items and raffle it off at work.

    • Ask your work if they would support doing a fundraiser at work.  Many businesses do this.

    • If your business has a wellness program, ask them to include the BFKS event in it to recruit bowlers

  • Send your donors a thank you card and include a picture of you at the event having fun.
